The legend of Ernak

One of the most well-known stories of apepistani folklore is the legend of Ernak. According to this myth, there was a great tribal chieftain, who led the apepistani people before the Kingdom of Apepistan, or the United Kingdoms even existed. His people were defeated in war by foreign forces, and were forced to settle west, further into the mainlands of the continent. This is how the apepistani people found their present day home.
Before arriving in the new homeland, chieftain Ernak has said farewell to his people, knowing they need a new leader in their new homeland. He and his greatest warriors ascended into the heavens, their way was paved by stars. Ernak entursted the apepistani tribe to protect the steppes from foreigners and unite the tribes - and he promised that he will return with his celestial army if Apepistan is in great danger.

People associate the Milky Way as the celestial way on which the warriors departed, and ever since it's called "Hadak utja" (Armies'/Warriors' Road). Other myths from apepistani folklore say that Chieftain Ernak has saved his people twice already, descending from the sky along with his warriors with fire and bright light - legends claim that the celestial army is only visible to the enemy, and that no earthly weapons can harm them. The third and last time when Chieftain Ernak will descend from the skies will be at the great battle when the world ends.

The "Hadak utja" is the apepistani equivalent of the germanic Valhalla, as warriors who died in battle with honor will join Cheftain Ernak's celestial army and fight alongside him at the world's end.

Modern day scholars and anthropolgists claim that Chieftain Ernak is a fictional figure whose person is a fusion of 2 or 3 chieftains from about 350 AD. They date the apepistani tribe moving into their present-day homeland after the Hunnic Empire shattered after the death of Attila. The foreign attackers are said to be the greco-roman colony states on the sea-line of present day Apepistan, and formed a coalition against the huns after their empire weakened, eventually driving the steppe-nomadic tribes into the continental mainland.

The Shore of Odin

The greatest known story amongst Jorvikian children, is the founding of our great nation. It is said that the first Fylkir, Sugden Odinson arrived onto the World carried by Odin the Father on the greatest fleet eyes have ever seen. They numbered beyond counting, the skies shook with technicolour lights and cannoned with thunderous sounds, the Seas rampaged and swirled; thus Odin's approach was heralded.

The peasants and animals fled to their homes and clutched their loved ones tight. The hours ticked by, with the sounds and lights never relenting; but then, it was gone. With day-break came a great calm, no animals nor Human dared to make a sound, the Sea was silent, the wind was still. So it was until a child was found upon the Shore.

The child's eyes were a brilliant glowing blue, his hair a vibrant red and when he cried sound returned to the World. Without thinking the peasantry catered to his every whim, he could speak as if he was a man, and so it was for his life; until his death. All men of Jorvik obeyed him, all were awe-struck by his majesty; as he lay on his death-bed he gave one final command. 'Obey my children, and obey their children, you will serve them forever.' As if put by a spell, the people of Jorvik even today, serve the Sugden dynasty to their dying breath.
